About D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E. is a comprehensive prevention program with five different levels of instruction. The elementary and middle school programs are both ten week curriculums focused on educating students in grade five or six (elementary), and seven or eight (middle school.)

The D.A.R.E. program curriculum focuses on providing children with the following:

  1. Decision-making skills that help them stay in charge of their lives
    • Define – Describe the problem, challenge, or opportunity.
    • Assess – What are your choices?
    • Respond – Make a choice. Use the facts and information you have gathered.
    • Evaluate – Review your decision. Did you make a good choice?
  2. Resistance skills so they can refuse offers of drugs in a confident manner
  3. Knowledge and practice to recognize and resist peer pressure
  4. Basic information about tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs and their harmful effects on their developing bodies and brains
  5. Positive alternatives to drug use and violent behaviour
  6. Affirmation that the majority of kids do not use drugs
  7. A positive atmosphere for students to interact with uniformed law enforcement officers

The D.A.R.E. BC Society

D.A.R.E. BC is a registered not-for-profit society based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The mission of the society is to be responsible for the administration and management of funds used to teach the D.A.R.E. program throughout British Columbia and to provide community based fund raising support.
